About GenFusion
GenFusion Steel Orchestra was established in July 2022 in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, originally founded under the name St. Thomas Junior AllStars Steel Orchestra.
Founding and Mission The orchestra was created with a core mission to promote steelpan music, enrich Caribbean culture, and provide a structured, positive creative outlet for young musicians. Blending seasoned performers with enthusiastic newcomers, the ensemble focuses heavily on youth development, community outreach, and education through workshops that foster a deep appreciation for the steelpan tradition.
The Rebranding to GenFusion The organization later rebranded from its junior moniker to GenFusion Steel Orchestra. The name "GenFusion" was chosen to represent a modern, innovative approach to music. It captures the orchestra's signature style: fusing traditional Caribbean steelpan melodies and classical elements with contemporary genres like pop, reggae, soca, and jazz.
Cultural Impact As a vibrant fixture in the local arts community, GenFusion has performed at numerous regional festivals, community events, and high-profile concerts. By bridging generational gaps in music and connecting traditional island sounds with fresh modern arrangements, the orchestra serves as an active cultural ambassador for the U.S. Virgin Islands
